How the Foodbank works

  • We are a confidential, non-judgemental service providing emergency food to help those in times of Crisis. We know how easy it can be to fall into financial problems. We will make time to talk to you and let you know of other services that might be able to help. Clothes, shoes, coats, books…

  • Food bank referrals are made by a wide range of care professionals and agencies such as Citizen’s Advice Bureau, and Local Authorities, who identify people in crisis. All information is treated in confidence.

  • There are lots of reasons why someone might need a food box. This could be redundancy, illness, benefit delay, domestic violence, debt, family breakdown or paying for the additional costs of heating and other essentials as a result of the cost of living crisis. We believe that no one should be left hungry.

  • Each foodbox contains a minimum of three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food.

  • Food is donated by schools, churches, businesses and individuals. The food donated is non-perishable, in-date food. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival celebrations. Food can also be donated at many supermarkets.

All food that is donated is sorted by a team of volunteers at the Foodbank warehouse. They check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to deliver to one of the Distribution Centres.

If you can give food items, this list is items we usually need.

We will also accept donations of non-perishable food from groups or individuals during our opening times.
